How to Check IPO Allotment Status — IPOLyst Guide

You applied for an IPO and the subscription window has closed. Now comes the wait. IPO allotment is announced roughly 6 days after the issue closes — but you do not have to sit and wonder. This guide walks you through every way to check your IPO allotment status: the registrar portal, BSE, NSE, and your broker app. It takes under two minutes once you know where to look.

What Is IPO Allotment and When Does It Happen?

Allotment is the process by which SEBI-mandated registrars assign shares to applicants. For oversubscribed retail categories, allotment is done by lottery — each applicant either gets the minimum lot or nothing. For NII/HNI categories, proportional allotment applies above a threshold.

The allotment timeline is fixed by SEBI and announced in the IPO prospectus:

  • Day 0 (T): IPO subscription closes
  • T+3 to T+5: Registrar processes all applications, runs the lottery
  • T+6: Allotment basis finalised and published on BSE/NSE
  • T+7: Refund initiation for non-allottees (UPI unblock / ASBA release)
  • T+8: Demat credit for successful allottees
  • T+9: IPO listing on stock exchanges

You can check allotment status from T+6 onwards. Most registrars publish results by 9–10 AM on allotment day.

Step 1: Find Your IPO's Registrar

Every IPO is assigned a registrar — a SEBI-registered agency that handles applications and allotment. The two most common registrars for mainboard IPOs are KFintech (formerly Karvy) and Link Intime. You will find your IPO's registrar named in the IPO details card on IPOLyst, in the DRHP, and on the BSE/NSE IPO pages.

SME IPOs often use smaller registrars like Bigshare Services or Maashitla Securities. The method to check allotment is the same — each registrar has its own portal.

Method 1: Check on KFintech (Most Common)

KFintech handles allotment for a large share of mainboard IPOs including Tata Technologies, HDB Financial Services, and many others. Their portal is at ris.kfintech.com.

  1. Go to ris.kfintech.com in your browser
  2. Select the IPO name from the dropdown menu
  3. Choose your search type: PAN, Application Number, DP/Client ID, or Account Number
  4. Enter your PAN (most reliable option — e.g. ABCDE1234F)
  5. Enter the CAPTCHA and click Submit
  6. Your allotment status appears immediately: either the number of shares allotted, or 'No Allotment'

If you get 'No Allotment', the refund has already been initiated or will be in the next 1–2 working days. No action is needed on your part.

Method 2: Check on Link Intime

Link Intime handles allotment for a significant portion of BSE and NSE IPOs. Their allotment portal is at linkintime.co.in.

  1. Go to linkintime.co.in and click on 'Public Issue' in the top menu
  2. Click 'IPO Allotment Status'
  3. Select the IPO name from the dropdown
  4. Select search type: PAN, Application Number, or DP/Client ID
  5. Enter your PAN and submit
  6. The result shows allotted shares and the allotment basis (how many shares per successful application)

Link Intime's portal can be slow on allotment day due to heavy traffic. Try checking at off-peak hours (early morning or late evening) if you encounter errors.

Method 3: Check on BSE Website

The Bombay Stock Exchange publishes allotment status for all BSE-listed IPOs directly on its website. This is useful if you do not know the registrar.

  1. Go to bseindia.com
  2. Navigate to: Markets → Public Issues → IPO / FPO
  3. Click on the relevant IPO name
  4. Look for the 'Allotment' or 'Basis of Allotment' link
  5. Click the registrar portal link provided, or download the allotment PDF

The BSE page also publishes the full basis of allotment document — a PDF showing exactly how many applicants in each category received allotment. This lets you understand your odds even if the registrar portal is down.

Method 4: Check on NSE Website

NSE publishes the same information for NSE-listed IPOs at nseindia.com.

  1. Go to nseindia.com
  2. Click: Market Data → IPO
  3. Select the IPO from the list
  4. Click the Allotment Status link under the IPO details

NSE links directly to the registrar's portal for status checks, so you will ultimately end up on KFintech or Link Intime for the actual lookup. The NSE page is useful mainly for finding the registrar and downloading the allotment basis document.

Method 5: Check via Your Broker App

Most major broker apps now display IPO allotment status directly, which is the most convenient option if you applied through a UPI mandate.

Zerodha (Kite/Console)

  • Open Console (console.zerodha.com) and go to Portfolio → IPO
  • Applied IPOs appear with their status: Pending / Allotted / Not Allotted
  • UPI mandate cancellation is automatic on non-allotment

Groww

  • Go to the IPO section in Groww → My IPOs
  • All applied IPOs appear with real-time status after allotment
  • Refund is processed automatically to your linked bank account

Angel One

  • Open the IPO section → Applied IPOs
  • Status updates once the registrar publishes results

Other Brokers

Upstox, HDFC Securities, ICICI Direct, Kotak Securities, and most other brokers have dedicated IPO tabs. The path varies by app but is usually under Portfolio or Investments.

What Happens If You Did Not Get Allotment?

If you were not allotted shares, the refund process is automatic and requires no action from you.

  • UPI-ASBA applicants: The bank unblocks the reserved amount within 1–2 working days from allotment day. The funds never leave your account — the hold is simply released.
  • ASBA (bank branch/net banking) applicants: Your bank releases the blocked funds. Timelines vary slightly by bank but are usually within 2 working days.
  • You receive an SMS and/or email from your broker and bank confirming the unblock.

If your refund is delayed beyond T+9 (the listing date), contact your broker or registrar with your application number and PAN. SEBI mandates that refunds be completed before the IPO lists.

How to Improve Your Allotment Chances

IPO allotment in the retail category is a lottery — every eligible applicant has the same odds regardless of how many lots they apply for (since the maximum is 1 lot per application in retail). But there are ways to improve your household's overall probability:

  • Apply from multiple family members' demat accounts (one application per PAN — applying twice from the same PAN gets both applications rejected)
  • Always apply at the cut-off price, not a lower price within the band — cut-off price applications are treated as the highest bid and are eligible for allotment regardless of where the final price is set
  • Apply early in the subscription window to avoid last-minute UPI mandate failures or technical errors
  • For high-demand IPOs, use broker apps that support 'multiple applications from family members' workflows to streamline the process
